The HHOSA exists today because the land was acquired to be open space for Fairfield by First Selectman John J. Sullivan in 1968. The HHOSA is a unique parcel of the past natural rural beauty of Fairfield. It currently consists of trails for hiking, cross country skiing, horseback riding and wildlife observation through open farmer’s fields and a woods of 100-year-old trees that are home to numerous wild birds, animals and plants; historic stonewalls and hedgerows; an orchard, red barn and old farmhouse; the Police Department’s shooting range and the golf driving range. The HHOSA is one of only 4 town-owned designated open space areas managed in accordance with duly-adopted Conservation Commission Management Plans. |
